Today’s NJ article got it right.
Schools have major issues with teacher/student sexual misconduct.
It’s called pass the turkey and it goes on all the time.
Trust me I know.
Yet, many times the student is the instigator. No excuse for the behavior of an adult but sugar and spice and everything nice is a fading myth. Again an adult needs to say no. All of the time.
While today’s NJ chronicles some of the cases there are plenty more when the turkey has been passed and HR issues bland comments like, “his work was satisfactory here”.
In fact at least one former DOE employee had a fling with a student, got divorced and married the student once she graduated.
Happens all the time.
” HR issues bland comments like, “his work was satisfactory here”.
Yea, I caught that comment and wonder how it would relate to sexual misconduct with a student. I thought there was a law in that those working with chidlren have knowledge or hard rumor of abuse they are required by law to report it.
“Happens all the time.” However, laws have changed and I believe Third Degree Rape applies to those working with children even if consensual where the student was of the age of consent which is 16 in Delaware. (looks like 4th degree from what he was charged)
“Surely as apparently in this case the perpetrator had prior issues which just allowed him to resign. At best he HR could have went off record and this person not hired but the fact remained a perertrator was in the community.
To get around such limitations, Hildenbrand, the Dorchester superintendent, said he has spoken “off the record” with supervisors of potential employees and has provided discreet information to prospective employers.
”
Now don’t you think if Hildenbrand knew of issues of “possible abuse” he would have reported it to the police as required. Hildenbrand comments suggest he knew of concerns therefore his lack of action was more about protected his school district then children in the comunity. At least if prior concerns were reported in would be on police records. Guys like Hildenbrand are part of the problem.
