I made some notes during the debate. Here they are in no particular order.
First, what an uneven matchup this was. Romney was amazing. Was Obama this bad in 2008? I have to see if I taped the debates.
Obama said that a budget is about choices. What budget? There has not been a federal budget since he took office.
Outside of the recent Univision interview, this may be the first time that Obama has actually been challenged to defend his record in a live situation. He can’t. He is barely even trying.
Obama looks like a man who knows that he has failed and is being exposed to the world for the first time. Or maybe he is just annoyed that he is being made to go through this; that he should just be declared the winner and not have to stand for election again. He looks annoyed.
Romney’s “trickle down government” line is not going to be his Reagan moment. He is doing really great, but catch phrases are not his thing.
Eh oh. Romney just took a “no new taxes” pledge ala Bush 41.
Is Obama really this bad at thinking on his feet? Or is this some kind of campaign strategy? It is like he is throwing the fight. If this were a boxing match, I would be looking for the bookie that put in the fix.
This turned out to be a real debate which is not what presidential debates have become. Did Romney turn the tables by taking the fight directly to Obama on purpose. Was Obama’s prep dependent on the format? Does Obama just memorize 2 minute responses to questions and not prepare to have anything challenged? Does he not actually have command of the facts? Is he really just a dilettante; a poser who can deliver a speech that is written for him?
They are going to blame Lehrer for this, but after 4 years Obama should barely need to prepare. He should have the facts at his command at any time. What must it be like when he has one on one meetings with other world leaders? Maybe that is why he does not want to meet Netanyahu.
Somebody said that Romney is much better than his campaign. Obama is much worse. Looks like Obama is a better campaigner but a lousy president. Romney is the opposite.
Bill Maher is even admitting that this is a disaster.
