Let me get this straight. Delaware cleans up our air pollution act by making NRG shut down coal generating units. We were already a net electricity importer and this increases our purchases from nearby states.
So, we really just made the wires longer and arranged for the the smoke come out of the smokestacks of coal and natural gas plants in Pennsylvania and New Jersey instead of here. Now Senator Carper is outraged and wants them to clean up their act like we did.
“Downwind states can spend millions of dollars to clean up their act, but unless we require upwind states to make serious reductions, states like mine won’t get much healthier and people will continue to get sick and die,” Carper said Thursday on the Senate floor. “For all Delawareans and all the others who are living at the end of that tailpipe, I say enough is enough.”
Really, like WE did? That takes some chutzpah. Should they should buy their electricity from West Virginia or someplace and complain about their polution? We only moved our “tailpipe” out of state.
Let’s take care of our water pollution too. We will just run a pipeline that empties into the Delaware River at Chester and when the polluted water gets to Claymont, we can insist that PA do something about their dirty water coming downstream.
