It seems that the New Castle County Redistricting Commission has completed their work and all is well in the county.
The NJ story says that the chairman, Ted Blunt, explained the commission’s goals:
The commission’s goals were to not put an incumbent in a different district, but to keep the populations of each district at around 45,000, to use natural boundaries such as waterways and highways whenever possible and to maintain the demographics of each district largely the same, officials said.
Happily, not one councilman was drawn into another’s district so would have to run against an incumbent. Success! As you can see above, it was first on the list. Even with the large D majority on council and Chairman Blunt’s affiliation, no mischief with the Republicans (Kilpatrick and Weiner [not that Weiner]. Their districts do adjoin.
Now, if only Mr. Schwartzkopf had the same priorities with the house districts. Think of the acrimony and gnashing of teeth that could have been averted.
