In today’s News Journal article about the civil unions bill, Rep. Melanie George (D – Bear) is quoted:
George said it’s a matter of fairness, likening the current situation to the insurance company’s TV commercial, where a man offers a little girl an ice cream cone, then gives it to a little boy passing by instead. The girl is stunned.
“Even a child can tell that it is unfair to give ice cream cones to certain couples and not others,” George said. “If your insurance company is not giving you the same ice cream cone that it is giving others, you can switch insurance companies. But what happens when it’s your government that is giving some people ice-cream cones and not others? Your only recourse its to change the law.”
I think I know which commercial she is talking about – there is actually a whole series with kids getting shafted by some guy in a suit. But it’s not for an insurance company, it’s for Ally Bank:
Maybe I’m wrong and there’s another commercial out there so please comment if you find it. But I have a feeling she was making this up – blame it on the DVR for fast forwarding thru the commercials.
