The NJ has a story on DelDot’s Transportation Management Center. They have plans to add more bells, whistles, doodads and geegaws to their toybox (when they can’t even get their lights synchronized):
By spring, DelDOT will start posting travel time estimates for the busiest roads on its website, radio station and billboards.
In mid-2012, DelDOT plans to launch a 511 phone service for drivers to call to get road conditions, Donaldson said.
In the future, alerts could be sent to smart phones and private GPS services, though there are no specific plans to do so at this time, Donaldson said.
I guess when the Governor was leaving no stone unturned to find things to cut in the budget, this one escaped his scrutiny. Billboards, 511 service, text alerts…. Really, REALLY?!!! I hope that he didn’t cut anything important.
