Over the past few years the cries of racism, discrimination, preferential treatment and the like have been bellowed at some charter schools and Red Clay’s choice program.
Yet you hear nary a peep about the Vo-tech’s admission policies.
1. They are by law allowed to recruit from public midde schools. Do an entire production/assembly if they so like. Whereas charter schools aren’t allowed in the door.
2. They are allowed to utilize discipline records in making their decision. The middle schools HAVE to supply them with that information. If a parent balks the vo-tech schools simply calls the next one on the list. Charters cannot access discipline records.
3. The vo-tech’s do a home visit with each applicant in the summer. Charter’s are so understaffed they can’t.
4. The vo-tech school district when created in the late 70’s was designed to be the employer for a host of elected officials and their families.
And that concludes today’s history lesson. Any questions?
