The Recovery. Daily we are assaulted with news of it’s arrival or near arrival or non arrival, etc.
At 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue they are playing Martha and the Vandella’s, Dancing in the streets because only 36,000 more American’s lost their jobs last month.
Only 36,000. The President intones that this shows signs of “stabilization”.
It does? How in the hell can more American’s now facing huge personal insolvency be a stabilizing factor in the America. When you’re still losing jobs, you’re still losing jobs. (Maybe this is the new fuzzy math?)
Anyway we’re now told things are getting ready to improve. This is good if it happens but let’s look closer here at home: there is no more manufacturing places to work period, the chemical industry is a shell of the glory days and banking has become a ghost of the 80’s.
So the question is if The Recovery happens where in Delaware will we see it because I for the life of me can’t figure out where it’ll take place?
Maybe tourism at Dewey, watermelon growing in Laurel, slots in Dover, Borders in Christiana, Catherine Rooney’s in Trolley Square, Red Robin off Naaman’s Road, Deer Park off Main Street, etc?
Note these are all service economy jobs which have their place, but none of them create middle class opportunities and until that happens we here in DE are screwed.
