What did you know and when did you know it?
Even a few in congress have questions about the administration’s involvement.
They are probably against apple pie, mom, baseball and the Marine Corps as well, Bill.
GM CEO, NHTSA Administrator Testify to Congress on Chevrolet Volt Safety – Rumor Central.

I’ll take the bait.
I don’t know about being against apple pie and all. It’s good to check cars for safety. When I was a young conservative capitalist extremist, I used to think the government had no business checking cars for anything. I was around 19.
The quote in that Volt article says The Obama Administration has an “unnatural relationship” with Volt. I thought maybe the President was trying to mount the Volt for reproductive purposes.
The anti politics are clear. Don’t like Obama = don’t like Volt. It’s a game. A self-destructive game but fun anyway. Volt bad. GM bad.
We all have a stake in the “made in USA” renaissance. Volt, arguably the most technologically advanced gas/electric automobile in the world, designed built in the USA by American workers. Very cool car. Test drive one. Read the owners comments on line. Folks are getting 300 – 400 MPG. Love it.
Neat thing is Volt plugs in anywhere, to any standard 110 or 220 outlet. That’s a big deal. You can tell how Volt is charging and everything else on any smartphone or laptop via satellites delivering real time OnStar data. Top of the line USA genius level software.
Constant bad mouthing can destroy a brand. The Ralph Nader Left did that with the GM flagship compact Chevy Corvair. Destroyed the brand, the compact car market all to Japan in the 1970′s.
Now it’s déjà vu all over. This time it’s the Tea Party RIght trying to knock out America’s number one contender in the world competition for hybrid cars.
It’s pathological patriotism at work here. Where being against things American – the American President, the American government, public schools, the media, taxation, EPA, General Motors, CNN, Energy Department, EPA, unions, Medicaid, Medicare, Food Stamps, Social Security, Volt. Being “against” means you love the USA.
A strange kind of the anti-citizenry shipwrecked on a remote island where Fox News, imported from Britain, is the only thing in America worth liking.
That the administration would have a vested interest in whitewashing a safety defect taints the NHTSA. That is the point. Government ownership of companies is a recipe for corruption.
I don’t know about deja vu, pathological patriotism, thoughts about the President’s predilections, shipwrecks or the rest.
Steve, I think we’re all getting bored by three years of political battle. The elections will be over soon thank God. I do think both sides are starting to mellow. Like the last gasp of a family feud, then everybody hugs. I think when people realize the stakes with GM and Volt, our global competition, Americans eventually will put left-right aside and root for our USA companies like GM.
Uncle Sam now owns around 25% of GM stock. GM paid back all the cash loans. Our government protecting our domestic automobile manufacturing base is not a recipe for corruption, it’s more like a recipe for survival. Don’t make this so ideological. Like there’s some great religio-economic commandment being violated by bail outs. It is what it is. Volt is America’s number one contender in the global hybrid contest. Try not to do what Ralph Nader and the Left did to GM in the 1970′s. It cost us dearly.
If you don’t understand the deja vu part, maybe you weren’t around when Japan benefited from the phony Chevy Corvair “scandal”. This is global economic war. Be on our side.
Come to think about it, if our government showed some favoritism towards Volt, I say – good.
Who cares if they’re safe or not? Nobody buys them.
