There’s a big difference between the Conservative Party in Britain and American conservatives. Especially when it comes to what socialism even mean.
Thatcher would be booed off the stage by the Republican Tea Party. For starters, Thatcher was a huge fan of nationalized health services. When it comes to health insurance, Thatcher was “socialist” as it gets.
Her Conservative Party Manifesto: “We are committed to a National Health Service that is free at the point of use and available to everyone based on need, not the ability to pay.” Imagine if President Obama uttered those words.
Conservatives in Britain invented nationalized health care. Thatcher was justly proud. She increased funding by one third. The Thatcher Government built hospitals, clinics, hired doctors and nurses.
Thatcher also presided over a time when both taxes and spending went up as a percentage of GDP in Britain.
Minding the gap between rich and poor is the only way Capitalism is sustainable.
Right now, ordinary Americans are looking at those at the top with justifiable skepticism. Every day a new outrage. John Corzine says he can’t find $1 billion missing dollars that belongs to American farmers. Seems the farmers money got lost in some high end Euro futures trading. Corzine has not been arrested. This is part of the “gap” between rich and poor. The justice gap.
Calling for fairness has nothing to do with socialism.
Instead of complaining about those who complain, focus on rooting out the problems. There are problems. There are gaps that need to be addressed.
Minding the gap between rich and poor is the only way Capitalism is sustainable…
Who ‘minds’ it? The government? No thanks.
Calling for fairness has nothing to do with socialism.
50% of Americans pay no income tax. Is that ‘fair.’
Some people have IQ’s of 140, others, 80- is that ‘fair.’
Some people are 6′ 10, and can dunk a basketball. Others have wonderful voices. Like the dreaded CEO, broker or commodity trader, they make millions. Is that ‘fair.’
Some people, not endowed with height, or voice or Ivy degrees have to hustle all of their lives, and through determination, ambition and maybe a little luck, build a fortune, or at least economic security, while others sit on their butts collecting largesse for generations- is that ‘fair?’
Our government has proven- as have the governments of Europe proven- that the bigger government gets, the more inept, irresponsible, unweildy and fiscally degraded it becomes. The Founders knew this, hence Article I., Section 8. Today, we are beginning to reap what FDR began to sow, seventy-five years ago.
