The monthly unemployment rate makes Delaware look like it has a decent employment situation relative to the rest of the nation. However, that is because we are cooking the books. Almost 4 in 10 Delawareans are not participating in the job market, the 4th worst rate in the country. Fortunately for our Legislature and Governor, almost 1/2 of Delaware’s revenues come from outside of the State. If this were not the case, we would be up the creek without a paddle. As it is, we just have a lousy economy relative to the rest of the region and nation. Of course, the State’s policies have driven us this direction for decades, and the current Governor’s environmental regulatory regime is eliminating any potential for a turn-around like those experienced by other States in our region.
