Jim Van Houten is a retired military veteran who served his country in the United States Army for nearly twenty five years. During that time he was awarded two Army commendation awards, three achievement medals, five overseas service ribbons, four good conduct medals, the Army national defense service medal, the joint meritorious unit award and the army service ribbon among a host of others. In addition to that he was assigned to security details for retired World War II general Omar Bradley and President Ronald Reagan. Jim retired from active service in 2002 and went to work serving his fellow vets in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Previous to that he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Wilmington University and an associate’s degree from the University of Maryland. Jim’s service to his nation and frustration with do-nothing incumbents sparked his decision to run. He plans to focus on his areas of expertise: jobs and improving the Delaware economy.
