Well, not yet. But he is officially thinking about it and instead of telling us he’s talking to WDEL:
Copeland considers Congressional bid
By: Frank GeraceA former state Senate Minority Leader and one-time candidate for Lieutenant Governor says he may run for the U.S. House seat Congressman Castle now holds. Castle’s fellow Republican, Charlie Copeland, tells WDEL News there are several factors he’s taking into consideration, including a full plate of non-political commitments.
Hopefully there will be an announcement soon and we’ll get to break the big news here at Resolute Determination. Throw us a bone Charlie!
Charlie can think and think but he has no chance.
Copeland won a state senate seat in an overwhelmingly GOP area and the first time he went out of that safe area he got beat and beat very badly. In fact his poll numbers were about even with Christine O’Donnell.
Copeland is only a viable candidate to the GOP elites who have no clue, have had no clue for a long time and will never have a clue.
Copeland has laid off a lot of workers so how does that fly with the general public? Maybe the trust fund crowd will support him but no one else.
The guy left a safe senate seat for what? In 2008 I bet he did not carry his old district in the LT GOV race againt a lightweight like Denn.
By the way, what has Copeland ever done except be born a duPont? Please run Chateau Charlie so we in the GOP can be rid of the Zinfandel sipping crowd and finally win some elections.
Charlie should really listen to “delaware patriot.” After all, those guys have been SO right about SO much for SO long.
Charlie got almost 40% of the vote against a well-known, well-funded, hardworking candidate in an election where EVERY bounce went the other way. Nothing to be ashamed of there.
He made the best use of his limited power in the Senate. He was right when he recommended the state cut spending by 10% in 2006. He was right when he recommended the state rein in Medicaid expenses. They didn’t listen to either suggestion, and look where we are now.
He has the right combination of public and private sector experience, and if he wants the job, he’s the best candidate for it, despite what the cowardly sock puppet set thinks.
All that bitterness towards those who are successful, DP, says a lot more about you and your own feelings of inadequacy then it does about the targets of your rage.
What has Charlie ever done? I sure haven’t seen it.
Try looking. There’s plenty to find.
DP, you lost my respect when you said zinfandel sipping crowd. I’m sure you meant white zinfandel which no true wine lover would ever drink. Although it doesn’t give him a pass, Charlie took one for the team when he singlehandedly ran for governor and lt. governor. I don’t really think the results of that D tsunami year can be called credible. The only business not laying off is government, and they should be. I agree with Dave that Charlie has the best private and public sector credentials out there. Charlie has/is doing a lot for the good of the community that isn’t common knowledge. I want someone in government who knows the responsibility of signing a paycheck on the front. Could someone pass the pinot noir?
Charlie understands spending and education and job creation.
We need far less of the first, reform in the second and much more of the later.
The far right folks need understand that 80% of Charlie is much better then a 100% of John Carney.
“The far right folks need understand that 80% of Charlie is much better then a 100% of John Carney.”
I’m pretty far right, and i don’t have much use for either of them.
It has been my observation that to earn the endorsement of those on the farthest edges of the right, you can not actually have a chance to win. Only 1,000,000-to-1 longshots need apply.
Anyone want to run for Senate?
It has been my observation that to earn the endorsement of those on the farthest edges of the right, you can not actually have a chance to win.
Growing a moustache also helps! Just ask Protack. I bet Carney brings it back!
Protack?
I can’t wait to max to Mike Fleming for County Council.
Mike is ok actually, it’s his goons who are frightening. Quasi like SS troops from the 30′s.
Now they are all caught up in the Wade campaign. Poor Kevin, nice guy and smart but surrounded by these dangerous buffoons.
Charlie just doesnt play state wide with his holier than thou attitude.
He cant take another statewide loss back to back.
Carney will kill him.
Charlie has ideas. John has 8 years of Mr. Do-Nothing as LG.
People in this state realize now that we need checks and balances in Washington. Carney proved beyond anyone’s doubt that he does not fill that criterion by refusing to stand up to Ruth Ann Minner as she sent the state spiraling toward disaster.
Conversely, Charlie consistently challenged the Governor, pushing for fiscal restraint. And let’s face it — he was right, and it’s documented. I think people will respond to that, not to mention his record as a private businessman who knows what it’s like to be a small business owner during the economic downfall, and knows what it takes to create jobs.
“Charlie just doesnt play state wide with his holier than thou attitude.”
Well, there are parts of the state where you can be called a conservative even though you voted to raise taxes $200 million, so it’s tough to pinpoint how people will react to different candidates.
As always the GOP hacks defend the indefensible. A little history on Chateau Charlie. I have been active as a Brandywine resident and I know a bit about Copeland.
When he primaried Dallas Winslow , an incumbent GOP state senator he got a pass because he is a duPont. In a party which hates primaries Copeland ran one and got rewarded.
Copeland and Bullock teamed up to pretend he cared about prison health care and Bullock is a Democrat now and the prison health care is still bad.
Copeland screwed John Still to become Minority Leader and got a pass because he is a duPont.
Copeland leaves the safe senate seat and stupidly runs for Lt Gov. No matter what you say, he got beat and beat very badly by Matt Denn. His state senate seat went to a Liberal Democrat. Copeland is either stupid or delusional.
He ran Joanne Christian’s senate race and got trounced, Chateau Charlie blamed the Post Office and said there would be an investigation. Yea right.
Remember all the rumbling and GOP pressure for Copeland to run for Governor and he chickened out.
The GOP elites who are clueless beyond reality cling to this guy while the rest of the state says he is a loser. You can try to blame Lee but Copeland got beat by over 25%
At the Tea Party on the waterfront last year which was a huge success Copeland never lifted a hand to do anything but somehow popped up as the lead speaker with TV coverage. That little GOP game was amateurish and dumb.
No one on the right wants to endorse anyone in the GOP as the GOP in Delaware is broken so badly. The feeble attempts to defend Copeland are laughable and so is the Delaware GOP.
As for Mike Fleming, I attended the Pasta and Politics event in November and a member of the audience asked Emcee Rick Jensen about why be a republican. Fleming flubbed the answer with his reedy feminine voice while mentioning three times he worked for Bill Roth. No substance. Two other speakers gave good concise answers. When Fleming was asked at the Brandywine meeting about his community involvement again he said he worked for Bill Roth. Face it, Fleming popped out of nowhere just so he could run for something, anything.
I work for an Engineering Firm which does business all over the state and trust me, no one sees Copeland as anything but the Delaware GOP clinging to the past and denying reality. As for Fleming, aren’t you the New Castle County Chairman? Where are the candidates????
Is this going to be another cycle where you jackoffs try to tear everyone else down without doing anything positive at all, just to help alleviate the fact that you’re a bunch of miserable whackjobs who hate anyone who succeeds at anything?
It’s easy to anonymously throw stones at people who have actually accomplished things, but all it really does is reveal you to be a spineless loser with no credibility.
“The GOP elites who are clueless beyond reality cling to this guy while the rest of the state says he is a loser.”
Please bring forth 10 Republicans who will, in their own name, call him a loser. Starting with you. I eagerly await it.
Even I’m amazed at the lack of political sophistication shown by De Patriot.
He implies Mike Fleming is gay? He disparages a state senate campign when the R’s all voted against W and claims he threw John under the bus.
Mike has 3 or 4 kids, Joann ran a great race in a tough year against a well known local and John just had enough.
Always remember we get nothing with Carney and alot with Charlie.
Dallas Winslow was a triple dipper just trying to get a pension. Charlie outworked Dallas and made him look incompetent in every face to face encounter. DP you are clueless on most of your points. You say you have been active as a Brandywine resident? Active at what?
The democrat candidate won’t get my vote. Charlie Copeland won’t either. So. I won’t be voting in this election if Charlie is the candidate.
Who drinks (implied: white) Zinfandel? Honestly!
Sure looks like some need a drink.
May I recommend Double Dog Dare white zin at $2.96 a bottle?
Fay
If the GOP would get their shit together and figure out the real problem in this race… Sending Ruth Ann Minner’s LT. GOV to DC when the Dems didn’t want him in Dover.
I would just hope that one leader would step forward and remind the citizens of Delaware who John Carey is and who he supported for 8 years.
We cannot have the understudy of Ruth Ann Minner represent the State in Washington cuz look what we got from Tom Carper’s understudy.
As for Copeland…He has demonstrated he is a catalist for bringing people together to do good things. Yes…sometimes for his own self promotion, but who cares. He had done more good for his communities than most of us ever will, perhaps due to the fact he was born a duPont, but that’s just his luck, Don’t Hate.
If he ran a campaign against Denn, he could have won, but he never got a chance to go one on one on the issues, other than the WHYY debate that noone saw. His biggest mistake was trying to carry the GOP candidacy of Bill Lee.
If Charlie were to run, and run on the issues, the solutions and the record of former Lt. Gov. Carney…it would be an interesting election night. I encourage Charlie to run, and run hard to stop John Carney from going to DC as our next Representative.
DP, you might try a little exercise that will reveal your resentment of wealth and your class prejudice. It goes a little like this:
“By the way, what has Copeland ever done except be born a duPont? Please run Chateau Charlie so we in the GOP can be rid of the Zinfandel sipping crowd and finally win some elections.”
Try changing that to the following and maybe you’ll see your prejudice:
“By the way, what has Copeland ever done except be born a Jew? Please run greedy banker Charlie so we Aryans in the GOP can be rid of the gefilte eating crowd and finally win some elections.”
Or:
“Copeland screwed John Still to become Minority Leader and got a pass because he is a duPont.”
Change that to the following:
“Copeland screwed John Still to become Minority Leader and got a pass because he is a Jew.”
Hmmm…Do you still really want to talk and write as you did?
The point: Class prejudice is just as bad as racism or anti-Semitism. If it’s Charlie’s policies you object to, then stick to refuting his policies with reasoned arguments and facts, because rank class hatred won’t cut it.
Fay
Ah, the sad GOP trolls sttempt to protect Chateau Charlie by attacking everyone else. It must be someone else’s fault Copeland lost as bad as O’Donnell.
Copeland is a complete and total waste of an effort for the GOP dunderheads to relight the duPont torch for Delaware.
What a waste.
I am a long time member of COAD and I saw first hand how Copeland used us and the prisons for his own publicity. Opportunist who without his trust fund would be a nobody.
For the GOP sock puppets and self appointed defenders of such a jerk, keep trying. I hope Copeland runs because Carney will kick his butt worse than Denn.
Still waiting for those names, dp.
I thought CO’s had backbones. You’ve proven otherwise.
I just finished a bottle of that Double Dog Dare wine Fay recommended, and I feel newly inspired.
Delaware Patriot is treating Charlie to the same vulgar disrespect Charlie and a lot of folks address towards the President.
Not a nice environment. I assume Charlie can prove he was born in the USA? I don’t mean just some copy of a birth certificate?
That’s the trouble. When Charlie rallies the Tea Party troops, tolerates people holding wicked pictures, signs accusing the President as communist, of not being a US citizen, well ‘ya gotta expect that crass crazy crap is contagious.
Kind of a karma what goes around comes around. You spit in people’s face, in time they spit back. I don’t like any of it.
But for Tea Party folks to demand civility – that’s is not coherent.
Want respect? Be respectful of others.
