There is a story in today’s NJ regarding how amazingly ugly the new Kirkwood Highway library is. We dealt with this previously on ResoluteDetermination.com.
However, I did not see that anyone has mentioned what the ugly white siding is supposed to be. Books!! Stacks of books as they would appear from the edge, seeeee…
I can not take credit for discerning this. It was pointed out to me by a county official several months ago. Just like the swooshes that were supposed to look like the pages of a book on which Noman had to enlighten me. Insufficient imagination on my part, I suppose.
Take a look at the books. See the brown book covers and white pages, unevenly stacked….

This thing does support the concept of time travel or cryogenics though. It seems that the architect must have been designing buildings in the 1950′s when buildings such as the Chuckwagon were popular. If it were built in the 1950′s, it might be a landmark like the Chuckwagon was. Built now, it is just ridiculous.
It would be a good place to display that paper mache Statue of Liberty that the county owned. Good to keep all of the kitsch together.
Also, someone has paid to have the screening redone so that it obscures the HVAC equipment (probably the taxpayer). Sorry that I complained about that, it did not help.
This is the back right? Any pictures of the front?
Sadly, I think this is the front.
Or at least the Kirkwood Highway side, which is how most people will experience it. The front entrance faces the parking lot.
It’s kind of cool.
The fact that the books are somewhat random in pattern seems to be the problem.
The human animal justs loves to know what to expect – this just undoes that.
In that respect, this is so very now.
think123,
I did not take any pictures of the back/front just the front/back, but here is a link to a sideways view of the other side from the county website:

it looks like a maintenance nightmare to me.
since the county won’t spend a dime on building maintenance, it will be leaking from all those joints within 3 years.
expect a big bru ha ha in 5 years when the building is riddled with mold and the county tries to blame the contractor.
Honestly, now that I know it’s supposed to be stacked books, I really am not that bothered by it. That just goes to show you how much perspective (and image) truly does matter.
HEY! Never judge a book by it’s cover (or a library)!
Thankyouverymuch!
