The House Majority Leader from Rehoboth opines today in the News Journal and extols how the Democrats have saved the state from near anarchy or at a minimum, total collapse.
If only it were so.
Not one thing was done to create a job. Not one tax was lowered. Not one intitative was implemeted to reduce the monstrous sized school districts and not one thing was done to truly bring about health care improvements.
Zero. Zilch. Zip.
The cry is “well we have to balance the budget, we had to raise taxes, etc.” There are over 300 employers in Delaware who manufacture products and the gross recipts tax hike will cost us more job losses.
Oh, I forgot The Majority Leaders push for a forth casino will create some jobs but they won’t be ones that pay enough to get a mortgage or buy a new car.
The state that started a nation has now instead become the home of high taxes.
Remember come next year when there is no more stimulus money, when Chrysler and GM have been the target of vandals for a year and when Medicare costs are even higher, that tax hikes from **** will be upon us and a once proud state will be as bad off as when Wall Street declared us bankrupt in the 70′s.
Where is our Pete duPont who brought jobs, cut taxes and earned us AAA bond rating? Because with this Pete the erosion will continue.
Case you forgot, it’s 2009, Delaware does have a AAA bond rating and low taxes.
Governor duPont was good for Delaware. The secret to his success was letting the New York banks come here run the show charging exorbitant interest rates, all the while luring college students, the working poor into a life of permanent indebtedness. It’s no surprise that all came crashing down.
I’ll take the bait. Gov duPont brought jobs here that for many was an unheralded opportunity. As for people making choices – they did just that – made a choice.
Taxes have been raised. I mean after all we talked about a sales tax last year? A sales tax? Wait until next year when we get one and consumer spending goes kerplunk from out of state shoppers.
High taxes, low job growth an dthe like will cause our bond rating to erode as well.
We’re in a world of hurt.
Well we agree on the world of hurt thing. A sales tax would be sad.
Think123, you assume, like all liberals that without government we are not able to think for ourselves and will only do ourselves arm.
Credit card indebtedness is a choice. Government indebtedness is far less of a choice. Those banks brought good jobs, a housing boom I remember when anything south of US 40 in NCC was desolate nothing).
Thanks, but I don’t need the government to hold my hand and make decisions for me. Consumers have the right to be smart or stupid. Private enterprise has the right to make a profit.
We have fundamental, God given rights: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness… but no guarantees of happiness. It is up to us as individuals and under liberal utopia, happiness can never be acheived. That’s why the Berlin Wall and communism came crashing down.
P.S. Congressman DuPont would have NEVER voted for the Crap and Tax… er Cap and Trade bill that his successor, Governor turned traitor Congressman Mike Castle voted for.
I mean after all we talked about a sales tax last year?
I remember Bill Lee saying he was strongly opposed to a sales tax and getting a round of cheers and applause.
Meanwhile Markell was thinking “WTF? I didn’t say anything about a sales tax.”
I remember when anything south of US 40 in NCC was desolate nothing
America’s family farmers might take exception to your characterization.
Credit card indebtedness is a choice./i>
Well, now banks are finding out how true that is.
ProudDelExPat,
We all know the credit card boom did wonders for Delaware. Just because somebody has doubts about the ethics of unregulated credit card terms – does not mean they are liberals who needs a lecture about the American Way.
Corporations are not free to take advantage of consumers. We decide how the Corporations operate, not the other way around.
I signed on for an Advanta business card, transferred a balance based on an attractive ad, my first bill showed a $110 dollar “balance transfer fee”. They said read the fine print. I could not find it in the fine print. I fought and fought they final caved. A rip. A friend of mine charged something that took him, without his knowledge, over his limit, purchase was approved but a $75 over limit charge was imposed. Fine print again.
Why are you talking about liberal utopia and The Berlin Wall? I was talking about credit card companies ripping people off.
Let me beat the drum again on an independent review to restructure state government. The estimate is spend $1 and save $100. Why not?
The problem is not revenue it is spending. A taxpayer bill of rights where you limit spending to population growth and inflation. If we did that since 1990 we would have a surplus.
Tax increases are always bad.
Next year, we face a worse situation with a weak economy and stagnant revenues. What then?
