This is a sad day for New Castle County taxpayers. It is unfortunate that hard-working families across the county will now be forced to shoulder the second-largest tax increase in New Castle County history – especially at a time when so many are struggling.
The budget approved yesterday does not address the serious, systemic issues that have afflicted county government for far too long and resulted in a record deficit.
Regrettably, it was just a few short years ago that County Government had an unprecedented surplus. One party rule has now led to the citizens of New Castle County being punished for years of mismanagement and excessive government spending.
At a time when so many major companies and institutions are reorganizing and reassessing their mission, our county government, given its financial failure, should also be considering a comprehensive transformation.
Socking taxpayers with this 25% increase in property taxes is unimaginative and counterproductive.
Simple, tax increases are easier than change.

Alot of good this does issuing it after the budget is passed. Plus a republican voted in favor of it. The GOP offered so many alternatives over the past several months…HA!
FCDelong: I wish the Republicans had offered some alternative. Of course, 2 votes out of 13 puts that proposal in a meaningless position, but they should have made a proposal. The Democrats control the show and have for well over a decade.
