We’ve all heard about the destructive nature of the “K Street Lobbyists” in Washington DC. There are something like 100 lobbyists for every member of Congress. There are so many that they’ve had to start taking up residence on “L Street” as well, and they’ve had to subcontract to help little ole Delaware with our 25% budget shortfall. The following is the address of one of those lobbyists working for you…

Ms. McBride (no relation to State Senator David McBride as far as I know) has put together a “Dear Colleague” letter on behalf of Rep. Dennis P. Williams and Rep. Terry Schooley. Majority Leader Pete Schwarzkopf was also copied on the distributing email as was the head of the State employee union, Mike Begatto.
As is often the case with this kind of “help”, there is a lot of complaining, but no recommendation.
So, I will help them out. Why not try Senator Colin Bonini’s Employee Reduction Option (ERO) as the most workable plan for reducing the long term expense of the State’s budget mismanagement. Sen. Bonini’s plan addresses the union’s primary concern that the poorest paid State employees are being unfairly hit (a charge with which I agree). The ERO has the benefit of giving a better pension to those who take it & reduces the size of government which will help reduce future deficits.

I have been through a painful bankruptcy with Delta Airlines. Massive pay cuts of 38% and pension losses, cutting hurts.
Our government is in bankruptcy but will not admit it.
There must be a fair but determined effort to restructure government. Early retirements, leaves of absence and yes, some buyouts.
Next year this time there won’t be the stimulus money to patch things up so why wait?

What about starting with the 200M we waste every year in DFMS vendor payments? http://stoptaxing.wordpress.com/2009/05/20/if-dfms-were-a-criminal-it-would-be-son-of-madoff/
Saving the 200M that was under the auspices of former Treasurer, Jack Markell, would be a good idea!!
