State Representative John “Scandals” Atkins finds it hard to stay in the Legislature. First, in 2006 then-Republican Representative Atkins allegedly had an altercation with Maryland Police. This altercation was followed later in the evening with an alleged domestic complaint dispute. Details can be found at the left-leaning DailyKos website - here as well as at The News Journal – here.
This series of events led the then-Republican House Majority to move to censure “Scandals”. So, “Scandals” resigned the legislature, but was far from done with politics. “Scandals” switched his Party designation to Democrat, ran for election in 2008, and with a lot of help from Democrat Majority Leader Schwarzkopf, “Scandals” won his old seat and now proudly serves as a new Democrat. Ironically, Majority Leader Schwarzkopf placed “Scandals” on the Public Safety and Corrections Committees.
Working that hard to get back into the Legislature, you’d think that “Scandals” would be singularly focused on fixing the State’s historic problems. However, it is rumored that he just took an extra week off while the legislature was in session to go to a beach resort. If you check the House votes from April 7-9, you’ll see that “Scandals” was absent (e.g. HB 16, or HB 106). Evidently, Delaware’s problems will just have to wait for “Scandals” to get back from Sandals.

Charlie, we finally got the video in from Sandals. There was a little delay with the feed. Allegedly, Rep. Aktins was doing Jägermeister shots with the live truck crew and, as usual, things got out of control.

Whats the difference Between Copeland and Atkins? The voters re-elected Atkins. What does that say for you Charlie? Now, go have your servants run your fox hounds or play polo, or what ever you rich guys do….
KLM: If you would like to defend Rep. Atkins actions, please do. I pity your intolerance towards people who work hard; have been successful; and have been providing the economic engine that has made this State the diamond that it has been. I hold my work schedule and achievements up against anyone at anytime. So tell us, what have you done?
Work hard? Come on Charlie….. let me remind you. YOU ARE A DUPONT! Not bashing your family and what they have done for the state, but come on, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and have never seen a hard days work in your life. Bet you dont even cut your own lawn.
K.L.M. – Let’s keep the comments relevant and stick to the talking points:
1. John Atkins is a paid elected official who is supposed to be in Dover when the legislature is in session.
2. Does it seem right for him to take an extra week off to go to the beach when the state is facing a huge budget problem and he is trying to redeem himself?
Mr. C.R., obviously the people in that district like him, and think he is doing a good job. You can’t deny that.
I’m assuming he went on his own dime, wonder how many junkets the R’s went on while they were in power? Too many to mention i’m sure. I think we can agree on that.
From your perspective you and Charlie are starting to sound like sour grapes!
P.S. after checking the house website, His attendance is still better than the Minority Leaders. Wonder if Cathcart went to Viet Nam again on the taxpayers dime? Check it out for yourself.

KLM: It is clear you have no defense for Rep. Atkins and so are lashing out at others. It really shows the type of person you are in your core. I have a lot of pity for people like you.
However, you still haven’t answered my question to you. I’ll hold my work schedule and accomplishments against anyone. So, what have you done?
Charlie, it’s not my job to defend him. As I stated in my earlier post the people of that district re-elected him! Get over it!
As for me I own and operate a small business in the M.O.T area that does about 3.5 million in revenue each year. I know thats chump-change, but not to shabby for a common peasants!

KLM: Still no activities to help the community. I’m all for a small business person. You ought to try taking some of the energy you focus into anger and focus it into helping the community.
I have a small business too. I took over a company with 10 employees and grew it to one of the largest 400 in the nation. Takes a little work.
Big difference in you “TAKING OVER A BUSINES THAT YOUR FATHER GAVE YOU” and starting one from scratch.
Oh forgot to mention, I am a community volunteer. (Little league, Jaycees, Ruritan, not to mention all the donations we make to local organizations). Hope this helps you.
And I’m not angry, I just remeber meeting you when you ran for Lt. Gov. You are one of the biggest pompous asses i have ever met. Just my opinion, but the little guys opinion doesnt count does it Charlie? Except on election day, when we all get even with people like you.

Excellent. Now we are making progress. A good community volunteer and small business person has some credibility. Still, you do need to get passed the anger.
Yep, it was my father’s business. I’m proud of that. We’ve worked hard, together, to make it a success that employs a bunch of people and provides benefits to Delaware. There is nothing better than being close to your family. I’ve really been blessed. And my forebears? Delaware and the country have benefitted hugely from their actions, and I couldn’t be more proud of them. It is a huge burden to try and live up to their example. I know that I’ve got more work to do, but their example and my children’s future is what drives me.

Charlie… I think you know by now I’m not going to go where KLM and Alex have gone in their comments… Seriously, we are all mostly middle-aged guys who grew up in Delaware and, except for circumstances, we’d probably hang out together. But we have had different experiences of Delaware and have come to different conclusions.
I think the point is, you have an awful tin ear for how it sounds when you lecture others on personal responsibility. It is something that automatically provokes anger, and you have to take responsibility for that instead of blaming others for their reasonable response.
I mean, we DID all grow up in Delaware so we know the backstories.
What you have publicly disclosed is that you have an “irrevocable income.” Which is unimaginable to most Delawareans. Heck, if I had an irrevocable income I’d use my real name too.
I suppose you are still entitled to be a pro-business conservative if you like, but you have to take on the extra burden of sensitivity when you are telling others to take entrepreneurial risk. For the rest of us, risk means the possibility of total failure.

I respect the fact that you follow rational discourse. However, I must correct a flawed assumption on your part. Business risk for me is just as total a failure as for anyone else. You actually don’t know the back story or my personal situation. Also, if you check the timeline of my responses to KLM & Greenmann, I only began the “lecture” AFTER the random, personal, baseless, off-point attacks. In short, if you are going to attack me, personally, then you should have personal credibility.
Martin Luther King said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Skin color is one type of background. I have another. Why is it that I am not granted the same dream – that I get judged for the content of my character? Bigotry is bigotry.
